Internet Campus Launch [by Brandon Buckner]

Sunday's launch of the MBC and Frontline Internet Campus was unbelievable. With the final count, 356 people logged on the IC to go to church online!

For those that don't yet know, the Internet Campus allows you to watch the 9 and 10:45 a.m. McLean Bible Church (click here) and 5:30 p.m. Frontline (click here) services online with live streaming video of the worship (with lyrics) and teaching (with notes). It has many other features, including online giving, a sermon notepad, links and The Lobby chat room where you can interact with people watching from all over the world.

Let's face it, there are lots of reasons why (on rare occasion) you just can't make it to Frontline. This is where the IC comes in. Check this out...

Here are a few of our first churchgoers on the Internet Campus:

  • A Mother with a sick child who could not leave home
  • A man without transportation because his car was being serviced
  • A student who could not leave his dorm because he was studying for a big exam
  • A woman visiting her Grandparents
  • A Father who had just returned home from taking his son on a camping trip
I think it is such a blessing that none of these people had to miss church!

I pray that the Lord uses this new project not to provide a more convenient way for people to watch sermons, but as a resource for those that need it and as a powerful outreach tool to people that need to know about the Gospel wherever there is an internet connection.

I would also like to say a personal thanks to a few Frontliners who helped pioneer our second Community Campus:

  • dgh from Herndon
  • Mark T., a Frontliner stationed in Portland, Maine with the Coast Guard
  • Shane C., a Frontliner of 4 years living in Iraq (7 hours ahead of EST)
  • Kathrin in Germany
  • Scott T., a Frontliner of 5 years who now lives in The Netherlands (6 hours ahead of EST)
  • kr in Colorado
  • jr in Washington, DC
  • Brett in Richmond
  • SC and Jimmy C. in Virginia
  • Clara in Kentucky
  • Harlo, a loyal Frontliner who logged on for all 3 of Sunday's services
Look for much more to come on the Internet Campus, including Small Groups, missions and outreach opportunities. Please feel free to email me your feedback at bbuckner@mcleanbible.org.

Another great use for the IC is to make it easier for our lost friends/family members (who are interested) to check out how we do church. In the case of my family they would visit as my guest if they lived closer. Now they can check it out from the living room and if you're at the right place at the right time there's even a chance that you could be on the screen.
